Co-teachers: During most classes, there will be an additional teacher in the classroom helping the teacher and the students. You will follow directions and ask questions of this experienced and talented teachers equally as you would Mr. Susman.
Class Time:
- When you arrive to room 2023 you must enter through the English hallway door.
- You will collect any handouts on the front counter, then find your assigned seat.
- If homework is due, place it in the class-specific bin with your name, date, and class period printed on the top.
- If you arrive after the tardy bell, please make sure to sign in on the tardy log at the front door so you will not be marked absent.
- All electronic devices shall be put away unless being used as part of a lesson or you are listening to music quietly while working, but not testing.
- Everyday, you are expected to be punctual, prepared, productive, polite, and positive.
- There is no food nor drink--other than water--allowed in the classroom.
- If you need to leave class, you must present an exit slip to get the hall pass.
Supplies: You must bring all necessary materials to class every day. These include a pen, paper, all currently assigned texts, and a binder. You will also want index cards and post-it notes for a variety of assignments.
The binder will be checked for a grade at the end of each 9-weeks grading period and must have five sections for handouts, in-class writings, notes, returned work, and reference.
Grades: Grades for this class are calculated within four categories:
- Formative Assessments - 35%
- homework, classwork, participation, activities, etc.

Late/ Make-Up Work: All assignments are expected on their assigned due dates at the beginning of class labelled correctly and placed in the correct bin; otherwise your work will be considered late. If absent, you will have the time missed plus one day to turn in work for full credit; this also is true for making up assessments. It is your responsibility to keep track of assignments you miss during your absence as well as scheduling retesting appointments. If you are turning in late work, it must be before the end of the associated unit, and you must come in at lunch either on Tuesday or Friday to grade it with me--this is the only way you can recover late credit. It is okay to email me work as long as you use email address from the district and the attachments work. All assignments will be accessible on my website for you to find, print, and complete if not done when originally assigned.
Exit Slips: Each nine-weeks you will be issued four exit slips. In order to leave the room for any reason – restroom, locker, office, etc. – you must turn in an exit slip. I will give you the hall pass only upon receipt of the slip. If you do not have an Exit Slip you may not leave the room. On the last day of the nine-weeks you may turn in your unused Exit Slips for four bonus points each on past assignments. If you have a medical condition that necessitates your leaving the room more than this, please bring a note from a doctor or parent stating so. If you use an electronic device without permission, the teacher may collect an exit slip as penalty.
Cheating: Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated. All cheating will result in a grade of 0 for the assignment for all involved parties with no opportunity to make it up. Cheating will also result in disciplinary action. Cheating includes, but is not limited to:
● plagiarism (misrepresenting the words or ideas of someone else as your own)
● copying the work of another student or allowing your work to be copied
● collaborating with other students on individual assignments
● viewing or possessing tests or assignments before they are officially distributed
● discussing questions or answers on quizzes and tests with students in other classes
● forging bibliographical sources in research assignments
● forging signatures on any document
